Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday assured that the central government will make all efforts, like it did in the 'Vande Bharat Mission', to bring back stranded Indian citizens from Afghanistan. At the same time, the Vande Bharat Mission carried out last year to bring back Indians stranded abroad after the suspension of regular international flights following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scindia said this during interaction with reporters in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur, where he had arrived as part of his 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra' late on Tuesday night, "The Indian government will bring its citizens back to their homes from Afghanistan, like we did in the Vande Bharat Mission, through Air India and the Indian Air Force (IAF) planes, whichever way is possible."
Scindia said that the central government had started evacuation process from Afghanistan last Friday. He said that the process of evacuation continued for three days. But, when a flight was about to take off, a NOTAM received after firing at the Kabul airport. After NOTAM, the airspace over Kabul was closed, thus hampering the evacuation process on Monday. Later, an Indian Air Force aircraft went to Kabul on Tuesday and brought back the Indian nationals, the minister said.
"We will leave no stone unturned to bring back all our citizens from Afghanistan. We already did it earlier under the Vande Bharat Mission," the minister said. Scindia reached Shajapur late in the night after starting his 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra' from Dewas district of MP on Tuesday morning. Let us inform that during this visit, various newly-appointed Union Ministers are reaching out to the people. They are informing about the welfare schemes of the Centre. Apart from Scindia, Union Minister SP Singh Baghel also visited Gwalior district on Tuesday.
