In a series of setbacks for the Congress in West Bengal, late President Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee is all set to join Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday. A press conference has also been called by Trinamool Congress at 4:00 pm. Trinamool Parliamentary Party leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay and senior minister Partha Chatterjee will be present on the occasion.
Abhijeet will join Trinamool in the presence of these two leaders. Let us inform that last month Abhijit Mukherjee had met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's MP nephew and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata. Since then, speculations have intensified that he will soon join TMC. However, putting an end to these speculations, Abhijeet clearly said that he will remain in Congress. According to TMC party sources, Mukherjee also met some other TMC leaders.
Meanwhile, there is speculation that TMC will offer the Jangipur assembly seat to Abhijit Mukherjee. By-election will take place on this seat. Earlier on June 9, He had met several leaders including TMC District President and Jangipur MP at his residence in Jangipur.
Many people including TMC MP Khalilur Rahman, District President Abu Taher, MLA Emani Biswas, two ministers Akhruzzaman and Sabina Yeasmin were present in this meeting. Mukherjee has been an MP from Jangipur and he is said to have a very good relationship with Mamta Banerjee. He had to face defeat from the Jangipur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
