Abhijit Mukherjee is all set to join Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday. He has been a two-term MP in the Lok Sabha in his father's seat of Jangipur. But he lost the last election.
Even though he doesn't carry much value. His shift to TMC could be a major humiliation for congress, as they already lost some of their eminent faces in recent years. Like, Jyotiradity Scindia, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Jitin Prasada all joined Bharatiya Janta Party in the past few years.
Resources says that Abhijit Mukherji was not contacted but a TMC member said he met the party's subordinate Abhishek Banarjee two weeks ago. The recent elections in West Bengal brought disappointment to Congress. It won no seat.
However, Abhijit Banerjee has already put an end to these speculations and has clearly said that he will remain in Congress. On Friday, Abhijit Banerjee had tweeted that I have not told anyone about this but later deleted it.
After that Abhijit Banerjee's statement came that he would remain in Congress and the news of him joining TMC or any other party is wrong. However, TMC party sources say that last week Abhijit Mukherjee met some TMC leaders. There is speculation that TMC will offer the Jangipur assembly seat to Abhijit Mukherjee.
It is being told that today at 4 pm Abhijit Mukherjee will join the party at the TMC office. TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay and Parliamentary Minister Partha Chatterjee will be present on this occasion. Let us inform you that even before this, he has met many TMC leaders.
On June 9, Mukherjee met several leaders including TMC District President and Jangipur MP at his residence in Jangipur. Many people including TMC MP Khalilur Rahman, District President Abu Tahir, MLA Imani Biswas, two ministers Akhruzzaman and Sabina Yasmin were present in this meeting.
However, Abhijit Mukherjee had rejected it and said that these people are good friends of my father. Also had come for tea at his residence. Let us tell you that Abhijit Mukherjee has been an MP from Jangipur. He has a very good relationship with Mamta Banerjee.
