The US on Monday requested 24 Russian diplomats to leave the country when their visas expire on September 3. Russia's ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov has given this information. Almost all the diplomats will now have to leave the country without replacements as the US has abruptly tightened visa issuing procedures.
Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov has said, "We have received a list of twenty-four diplomats who are likely to leave the country before September 3, 2021, last December the US State Department unilaterally established a three-year limit on the assignment period for Russian personnel in the United States that, as far as we know, not applied to any other country."
Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Ned Price, reacting to Antonov's statement, said, "His characterization of the situation is not accurate. It's incorrect. The three-year limit on visa validity for Russians, it's nothing new. When visas expire, these individuals are likely to leave the country or apply for an extension."
Let us tell you that in April, the Russian Foreign Ministry completely banned the hiring of Russian citizens on US diplomatic missions. Apart from this, the appointment of a third country citizen was also banned for administrative work and for technical assistance. All this was done in response to US sanctions and expulsion of Russian diplomats. Meanwhile, the talks between the President of America and Russia held in Switzerland last month, in which an attempts made to revive the ties between the two countries.
