United Nations: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that India's role in the International effort to Combat climate change is important and this country has made 'best efforts' to expand renewable energy. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on several occasions. He praised Modi's leadership in the International Solar Alliance and described the 193 solar panel given by India to the United Nations as 'very useful'.
Regarding the effort made by India on climate change, Gutaras said, 'India has made a big investment in the solar energy sector. India still has a good amount of coal and we discussed that also. Modi also took other new steps such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. We believe and we hope that India will take even more steps. This will have a strong impact on India's progressive performance in relation to climate change.
Guterres was speaking to reporters ahead of the high-level climate action summit meeting to be held on 23 September. Modi will be the first speaker at this summit to be held in the United Nations General Assembly Chamber. New Zealand Prime Minister Jesinda Adorn, Marshall Island President Hilda Hein and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are also speakers. He said that India has an important role in this and is a country which has a complicated heritage because coal is important in the production of electricity there. Therefore, India is a fundamental partner in this discussion and certainly this dialogue is part of their own efforts and the need to make the United Nations environmentally as well.
The Secretary-General said, "India's cooperation in Solar Park is very important." In response to another question, he said that India is a big coal producing country, but it is making 'significant efforts' in renewable energy and it also needs to be underlined. On a question asked about nuclear energy, he said that nuclear power is important for some countries to eliminate carbon emissions and the United Nations should respect the options of those countries.
The United Nations chief said, "I mean when I was talking to Prime Minister Modi, one of the things he wants to do is add nuclear power." This is something we respect. ' Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a 50-kilowatt capacity 'Gandhi Solar Park' during a visit to the United Nations next week as a first of its kind symbolic initiative by India. The move underscores India's willingness to go beyond climate change negotiations.
India has gifted solar panels installed on the roof of the UN Headquarters and one panel has been installed for all 193 members of the world body. The entire project has cost a million dollars. On September 24, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Modi will also inaugurate the 'Gandhi Shanti Udyan' with a solar park at the United Nations Headquarters. On this occasion, the United Nations will also issue a special stamp.
