Two Indian students died in a road accident in South Nashville, Tennessee state in the US. Officials said 23-year-old Judy Stanley, 26-year-old Vaibhav Gopisetti, was a graduate of Tennessee State University and was studying food science from the College of Agriculture. University students have raised more than $ 42,000 to fund their funeral in India. According to local police, it seems that Stanley and Gopisetti died in the hit and run case on the night of 28 November.

The Metro Nashville Police Department reported Sunday that David Torres (26), the owner of the truck involved in the accident, surrendered to police. Police said Torres did not answer questions. Authorities have taken DNA samples. The investigation is underway

According to the police, Torres' vehicle crashed into a Nissan Sentra, in which the two Indian students were travelling. The pickup truck was speeding and ran a red light when it hit the passenger side of the Sentra, witnesses said. The car went off the road and through a fence before slamming into a tree on the Walmart property. Stanley and Gopisetty succumbed to injuries and their families have been notified, police said, adding that Torres ran away from the scene.
