Twitter Compliance Report: Resident Grievance Officer in Action after Joining

Twitter had appointed Vinay Prakash as its Resident Grievance Officer in India yesterday. The Government of India had implemented new laws on 25 February. These rules were to be followed within 3 months i.e. before May 25, but Twitter did not follow these rules even after the deadline was over.

A day after the appointment of the Grievance Officer, Twitter has taken a tough decision on the account on its platform. According to Twitter's first compliance report, the company has closed 22,564 accounts. This includes content promoting child sexual abuse, nudity and terrorism, and accounts that spread these have been closed.

Posts intruding on people's privacy were also removed

This data is from the content on Twitter between May 26, 2021, and June 25, 2021. This includes complaints made by users on court orders and on an individual basis. Also, it has been told in the report that 133 posts have also been removed. These were the posts that were violating the privacy of the people.

7 suspended accounts started

According to the report, the complaints officer of the Indian channel receives the highest number of complaints in categories like account verification, account access, action taken by Twitter on the account. In addition to the above data, Twitter has also taken action on 56 other complaints. This includes suspending the Twitter account. These problems have been thoroughly addressed and explained thoroughly. Also, 7 suspended accounts have been restarted.

The company had asked for 8 weeks' time

The micro-blogging site on Thursday submitted its reply in the Delhi High Court on the new IT laws. In this, the company said that it may take 8 weeks to appoint a grievance officer in India. In the High Court, Twitter told that under the new IT rules, the first compliance report will be submitted by July 11. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had given Twitter time till July 8.

Facebook, Koo and Google have also released their compliance reports

After the new rules, it is mandatory for all social media companies with more than 50 lakh users in the country to issue their compliance reports.

Facebook: Between May 15 and June 15, it removed 3,11,000 hate speech content and 1.8 million nudity and sexual activity posts. Between May 15 and June 15, Facebook removed 75,000 content from its platform and Instagram under the 'Dangerous Organizations and Individuals: Organized Hate' policy, 106,000 under the 'Dangerous Organizations and Individuals: Terrorist Propaganda' policy and 118,000 for harassment-related content Post removed.

Google: Google said in its first compliance report that it received more than 27,700 complaints from users in India related to violation of local laws or personal rights in April this year, after which 59,350 materials were removed from its side.

Koo: The company said it is the first Indian social media platform to release its monthly compliance report under the IT regulations that came into force on May 26. Koo, which has added more than 6 million total users, said it's June 2021 report showed that its users complained about 5,502 posts, of which 22.7 percent (1,253) were deleted, while the rest ( 4,249) 'other action' was taken.
