Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has provided relief to telecom companies. TRAI has extended the deadline to implement the revised rules of mobile number portability. On Wednesday, TRAI extended the last date of implementation of these rules to September 30. TRAI said in the statement that the telecom service providers and companies involved in the port process had demanded to extend the actual date of implementation of MNP rules on June 13.
He cited other factors, including significant changes in the network, for this. TRAI said, "These shareholders have requested to increase the time limit for the implementation of the Telecom Mobile Number Portability (Seventh Amendment) Regulation 2018." The revised Rule of MNP makes the process of mobile number porting easier and faster. TRAI has reduced the time taken to port the mobile number within the same service area to two days.
Significantly, earlier this year, TRAI issued new regulations related to DTH. After which customers will only have to pay for the same channels they want to see. However, this move of TRAI has increased due to the reduced TV expenditure of the consumers. TRAI is also considering ways to reduce this expenditure.
In addition, TRAI is also exploring all options for the Setup box portability soon. Last month a report came in which TRAI said that soon as the mobile number portability, setup box portability can also be started. At present, the set top box customers are tied to the company after the service of a TV DTH service provider, because every company's setup box is different. Soon consumers can get rid of it.
