Rajasthan's Avani Lakhera won the country's first gold medal in shooting at the Tokyo Paralympics. Avani, who hails from Jaipur, is also the first woman athlete from India to win a gold medal at the Paralympic Games. Earlier, she had made it to the finals by finishing 7th in the qualification round.

Avani was not handicapped since childhood, but she and her father Praveen Lekhra had an accident in 2012 while travelling from Jaipur to Dholpur. In which his father and she were injured.
