Tokyo Olympics 2020: Canada Pulls Out from Games due to Coronavirus

The Tokyo Olympics to be held this year may get cancelled due to coronavirus. The International Olympic Association (IOC) can postpone the Tokyo Olympics and will decide on it within four weeks. Canada has clearly stated that it will not send its team to these games. Apart from this, Britain has also warned that it will not participate if the Olympics are held on time. Australia has also said that they will prepare for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo has said that it may be mandatory to postpone the Olympics. IOC will take a decision on this soon and if it is postponed, there is a lot of work left in the process, so work on it should be started as soon as possible.

The IOC will now take a decision by talking to the Government of Japan, global sports officials, broadcasters and sponsors. IOC President Thomas Bach has written a letter to the players explaining why this decision is taking so long.

He wrote, "I know that in this unprecedented situation there will be many questions in your mind. I know that you will not feel this kind of practical attitude in your emotional times. Canada, taking important decisions, has pulled back its hands from these Olympics."

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canada Paralympic Committee (CPC) said that Canada would not participate in the Olympics and Paralympics 2020. Apart from Canada, in the last 48 hours, sports associations and Olympic committees of many countries are also pressurizing the IOC to postpone these games starting in July.
