The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday nominated retired bureaucrat Jawhar Sircar as its candidate for the upcoming upper house by-election in West Bengal. The post got vacated after Dinesh Dwivedi resigned on February 12. In a post on Saturday, the TMC announced its decision to nominate Sircar to the Rajya Sabha.

In a tweet, the party announced, "We are delighted to nominate Mr. @jawharsircar in the Upper House of the Parliament. Mr. Sircar spent nearly 42 years in public service and was also the former CEO of Prasar Bharati. His invaluable contribution to public service shall help us serve our country even better!"

Sircar's nomination will prove beneficial for TMC:

Reacting to his nomination, Jawhar Sircar said, "I was a bureaucrat. I am not a political person but I would work for the development of the people and raise the issues concerning the masses in parliament." Let us tell you that Sircar is a retired IAS officer and former CEO of Prasar Bharati. Being an integral part of the government, Sircar knows in and out of the administration. His nomination will prove beneficial to the TMC since he will be helpful in keeping liaison with other national political parties in the future.
