TMC MP Shatabdi Rai Returned Rs. 30.64 Lakh from Sarada

As pressure from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) increased in the Saradha chit fund investigation, Shatabdi Rai, a Trinamool Congress MP from Virbhum, returned an amount of Rs 30 lakh 64 thousand from the group to the ED.

The amount has been sent to the ED office through a draft. After returning the money, the MP alleged that the ED was harassing her by repeatedly calling in the name of investigation. To get peace, she had decided to return the amount. She became the brand ambassador of Saradha Group as an artist, not an MP.

According to sources, after receiving the ED's notice, MP and actress Shatabdi Rai of Virbhum had sent a letter and proposed to return the amount received from Saradha. For this, she had adopted the path of actor and former Rajya Sabha member of Trinamool Congress, Mithun Chakraborty. The ED summoned the MP for questioning on July 12, but she did not arrive. After this, on August 8, Shatabdi had appeared in the ED office. As promised, she sent a draft of 30.64 lakh to the ED office on Wednesday. After returning the money, MP Shatabdi Rai was accused of ED.

The Chit Funds Act 1982 defines such companies. Apart from this, laws made in the states govern this business. Chit funds are a way of saving, which provides easy loan to people and gives higher returns on their investment. To get a loan from a bank one usually has to fulfill many small but necessary formalities, but there is no compulsion in the chit fund. Chit funds get higher returns than other investment options and sometimes this greed also causes loss of people.
