When Mahatma Gandhi was going for prayer on the evening of 30 January 1948, Nathuram Godse shot and killed him. Seven people, including Nathuram, were accused in the murder of Gandhiji. Nathuram Godse was hanged for murder. Even though Gandhiji is not among us today, but his thoughts and ideals are still alive in our hearts. Sabarmati Ashram
Gandhi has a special association with Ahmedabad. Gandhiji's ashram was built on the banks of Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad, which is called Sabarmati Ashram. By seeing this, you can know very well about Gandhi's way of life. Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi spent about 12 years here. Gandhi is also known as Sabarmati Saint. Bapu resided in the ashram from 1915 to 1933. When he was in Sabarmati, he lived in a small hut which is now called Hriday Kunj. Even today, his desk, Khadi kurta, his letters etc. are present. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, C. Rajagopalachari, Deenbandhu Andrews and Rabindranath Tagore used to stay in the guest house near nandini in Hriday Kunj. There is Vinoba cottage where Acharya Vinoba Bhave stayed. There is an Udyog Mandir in the Ashram from where Charkha was introduced to make khadi cloth by cutting cotton. It was completed on 17 June 1917. The Dandi March began in March 1930 from the Sabarmati Ashram.

Porbandar
Porbandar is a special place in terms of tourism. You can start knowing Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi from Porbandar. Its modern history is associated with Mahatma Gandhi. This place has been Bapu's birthplace. Mahatma Gandhi's childhood was spent in Porbandar. There are many things related to him here. The Kirti Temple at Porbandar is a special memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The temple is a three storey building designed as a haveli. The walls of the temple can be seen through pictures depicting the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi. This makes the temple a kind of museum work. Here, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi has been marked with a swastika. Located in the city, Shri Hari Temple is spread over 85 acres of land. The temple is 105 feet high and has 65 pillars. If you are a nature lover and want to see the beauty of nature closely, then you can plan a trip to Porbandar Bird Sanctuary. Spread over a square km, the sanctuary can see bird species such as flamingos, ibis, curls, fowls and teals. Porbandar also has a beautiful coastal site named Chow patty.

Dandi
Dandi village is also one of the special places to tell the life span of President Mahatma Gandhi. Today, Dandi is a small village in the state of Gujarat located on the banks of the Arabian Sea. The Salt Satyagraha culmination of Gandhiji on March 12, 1930 has a direct connection to this place. Gandhiji traveled about 268 kilometers from Sabarmati to Dandi. This journey was completed by Gandhi in about 24 days. Even today a large number of history lovers visit this place.

Varanasi
Mahatma Gandhi and Varanasi also have a close relationship. There are many places here to narrate the history of Gandhiji. At the time when non-cooperation movement was going on in the country, Gandhiji laid the foundation stone of Kashi Vidyapeeth in 1921 in Varanasi. The aim was to educate students and awaken the national spirit in them. It was dedicated to Gandhiji in 1995 after the country became independent. It was renamed Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth.
