The Hanging Process to Start at 5 Am on 22nd January: Nirbhaya Case

According to the death warrant issued in the names of Nirbhaya's convicts, Akshay, Vinay, Pawan and Mukesh are to be hanged at 7 am on January 22. According to jail sources, the day they are hanged, they are awakened at five in the morning.

After bathing, the convict is brought to the open yard in front of the hanging house. The jail superintendent, deputy superintendent, medical officer, subdivisional magistrate and security staff are present here. If the guilty wishes, then a religious person can also live there.

The magistrates present in the yard ask the convict about his last wish. During this time, the property usually comes to the name of someone or to write a letter to someone. The convict has about 15 minutes. The executioner then dresses the prisoner in black. His hand is tied back with a rope or handcuffs. From here the process of taking the prisoner to the hanging house begins.

After reaching the hanging house, the culprit is taken to the roof by the stairs. Here the executioner ties a black cloth to the guilty's mouth and a noose is put around his neck. After putting the noose, the culprit's legs are tied with a rope. When the executioner is satisfied with his arrangement, he tells the jail superintendent that his arrangements are now complete. The executioner then waits for the order of the jail superintendent.

As the jail superintendent points to the executioner, he pulls the lever. In one stroke, the convict swings on the noose. Two hours later, the medical officers present on the spot go inside the hanging house to ascertain whether the hanging person has died.
