Three of the four convicts sentenced to death in the 2012 Vansat Vihar gang rape case have submitted their answers to the Tihar Jail Administration. In the reply given to the jail administration after the court order, the three convicts said that there are some rules in the constitution to avoid hanging. They will resort to law measures, including mercy petitions.

Actually, Nirbhaya's mother has filed a petition in the court demanding that the culprits be hanged at the earliest. On Nirbhaya's mother's plea, the court had given notice to the defendants asking if they were adopting any law option to avoid capital punishment. Earlier, while hearing a petition seeking the issuance of death warrants for the hanging of the four convicts Akshay, Vinay, Mukesh and Pawan, they told the Tihar Jail administration in Patiala House Court to renew mercy plea to the convicts. Issue notice The jail administration asked the culprits if they would like to file a mercy petition. The next hearing in this case will be on 7 January.

During the hearing of the case, the four convicts lodged in Tihar Jail had appeared in court through video conferencing. It was argued that a review petition of a convict Akshay Kumar Singh is being heard in the Supreme Court.
