Twitter's new boss Elon Musk has announced the removal of millions of inactive accounts of the social media giant. Musk wrote in the tweet, 'Twitter will soon start freeing up the name space of 1.5 billion (150 crore) accounts'. Since his acquisition of Twitter, Musk has made many changes to the company, of which this is one.

Space will be free, but user base will decrease

This decision of Musk will benefit those users who want a particular user name but are not able to take it because someone else has already taken it and is not using it. Space will be freed by this move of Musk, but it will also reduce Twitter's user base. Although Musk has not given much information on that part.

Made 2 major changes so far

  • About half the employees have been fired for cost cutting. After the retrenchment, Musk had said, "When the company is losing $4 million (Rs 32.77 crore) daily, we have no option but to lay off employees."

  • Musk recently launched Twitter Blue subscription for $8 in some countries. If people don't buy it, they will lose their verified checkmark. However, this subscription has been put on hold after the number of fake accounts increased.

3 reasons to move to subscription mode

  1. The company is incurring a loss of 32 crores daily. They want to increase the revenue with the new model.

  2. Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion. They want to make up for it soon.

  3. Twitter is heavily in debt. They don't want to depend on advertisers to end it.
