Smartphone shipment faces an 11% fall due to unfavorable economic conditions. The global market of smartphones has seen a great decline of 11% in the first quarter. According to Canalys, Samsung is still the market leader, followed by Apple and Xiaomi. Apple, in particular, had a great quarter thanks to robust demand for the iPhone 13 and the new iPhone SE.
Global smartphone shipments have dropped precipitously as a result of the current Russia-Ukraine war, rising Covid infections, and China's shutdown.
Meanwhile, owing to the great performance of its Redmi Note series, Xiaomi stayed in third place. OPPO (including OnePlus) and Vivo rounded out the top five manufacturers.
"While the iPhone 13 series continues to grab customer demand," said Canalys Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia, "the new iPhone SE debuted in March is becoming an important mid-range volume driver for Apple." At a comparable price to its predecessor, it delivers an enhanced processor and greater battery performance, as well as the 5G connection that operator channels require.
"While Chinese vendors continue to face supply restrictions at the low end, their worldwide development is being limited by a downturn in their home market," he added.
"An unstable business climate held down the global smartphone sales in Q1," Canalys VP Mobility Nicole Peng stated. "Vendors must be prepared to adapt rapidly to emerging opportunities and threats while remaining focused on long-term strategic goals." The good news is that the unpleasant components shortages may be alleviated sooner than expected, which will undoubtedly assist lessen cost pressures," he noted.
