According to the current edition of the DeLorean Motor Co., a new electric DeLorean will come in 2024. This is the company started by John DeLorean in 1975 that went bankrupt by 1982.

Mismanagement, complaints about bad manufacturing, and poor performance all contributed to the company's demise, as did the fact that its founder was accused of plotting to import 55 pounds ($24 million) of cocaine into the United States. He was found not guilty.

DeLorean Motors Reimagined LLC announces the Alpha5

After years of languishing as a tiny steel-car automaker in Texas, DeLorean Motors Reimagined LLC announces the Alpha5, a contemporary electric coupe.

Joost de Vries, who joined the business in 2021, is in charge of the initiative. He was formerly vice president of sales at Karma Automotive, the troubled Chinese-owned company that bought the assets of the now-defunct Fisker Automotive in a bankruptcy auction in 2014.

During his tenure, Karma encountered significant sales and financial issues as a result of its failure to create high-quality vehicles. De Vries also served as Tesla's vice president of worldwide service.

DeLorean Alpha5 will not feature hypercar speed

However, the DeLorean Alpha5 will not feature hypercar speed. According to de Vries, it will not even be street legal.

The designs for the almost 40-year-old automaker depict a futuristic gullwing coupe that appears less wedge-like than the original, which achieved international prominence in the 1985 film Back to the Future.

It features tiny white headlights and a long red strip of light that makes up the taillights, which are softly shaped in an arch from front to rear. Images on the company's website show an active rear spoiler and seats for four people.

It will be able to hit 60 mph in 2.9 seconds

According to the business, it will be able to hit 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and have a peak speed of 155 mph, statistics that match the Lucid Air family car but lack the dazzling speed of a Rimac Nevera, which can run 0-60 mph in 1.8 seconds. The Tesla Model S Plaid version can go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds.

DeLorean is taking pre-orders for the Alpha5, which was initially teased in a Super Bowl ad in February. It is unclear whether the firm is also accepting deposits. Given the number of businesses that unveil an idea but fail to deliver it in production form, sensible buyers will wait until the automobile becomes a reality before investing any money in it.
