The country's second-largest automaker Tata Motors on Wednesday officially launched its popular hatch batch car Tiago and sedan car Tigor with iCNG technology in India. With the addition of the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG, Tata Motors has become the third mass-market carmaker to offer factory-fitted CNG kits on its passenger vehicles. These two models Tata Motors can later launch CNG models of its vehicles as well. In the Indian market, these cars will give tough competition to CNG cars of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. To increase its share in the growing market for vehicles with CNG technology, Tata Motors is ensuring that it sells vehicles with powertrains. Equipping Tiago and Tigor with CNG kits can help increase their sales potential in cities where CNG stations are easily available.

Powerful CNG Cars so far

Tata Motors claims that its CNG cars come with best in class power. The company has developed it with its 1.2-litre Revotron engine. This engine generates maximum power of 73PS. On the other hand, the ground clearance of Tigao iCNG is 168mm and that of Tigor iCNG is 165mm which gives a comfortable riding experience. Along with this, these cars also give a better driving experience on hilly areas and rough roads.

Tata Motors has introduced a unique safety feature in its CNG cars. If under any circumstances CNG leaks in the car, then the leak detection technology present in the car will automatically shift the vehicle from CNG to petrol mode. Along with this, this technology also alerts the driver about gas leaks. Along with this, a microswitch has been given to stop the vehicle immediately.

Protection against Accidents

The special thing is that the car does not start when the fuel lid of the car is open. Not only this, if there is any incident of the thermal accident in the car, it shuts off the CNG supply to avoid cylinder burst. At the same time, the remaining gas in the tube is released into the air. However, Tata is yet to reveal the claimed mileage of the Tiago and Tigor CNG.

How much does the car cost?

The Tiago iCNG is available in four trim levels. It starts at Rs 6.09 lakh ex-showroom in Delhi and goes up to Rs 7.52 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tigor iCNG is available in two trim levels. In Delhi, the ex-showroom pricing ranges from Rs 7.69 lakh to Rs 8.29 lakh.

Tiago CNG Trims

The Tiago CNG is available in four trims - XE, XM, XT, XZ+, while the Tigor CNG is available in two trims - XZ and XZ+. The Tiago CNG is available in one trim from the base to the top. While the Tigor CNG is available only on the top-spec trims.

The equipment list has been given to the standard cars only. 4-Star Safety Rating

Talking about the safety features, these include features like dual airbags, ABS, rear parking camera and sensors, and corner stability control. Most notably, the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG are the only CNG cars currently on sale in the country to have a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP Safety Crash Test.

Competition Trade Area of Markets

The new Tata Tiago CNG will compete with cars like Hyundai Santro CNG (Hyundai Santro CNG), Maruti Suzuki WagonR S-CNG (Maruti Suzuki WagonR S-CNG) in the Indian market. Whereas, the Tata Tigor CNG (Tata Tigor CNG) car will compete with Maruti Suzuki's upcoming sedan DZire CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG cars.
