Apple will hold its annual WWDC 2022 event, next month. Right before the event, the firm released iOS 15.5, which includes various accessibility changes that will make it easier for people with disabilities to use Apple products. Among the new features are Door Detection and Apple Watch Mirroring.

According to Apple's official statement, the feature would provide "new methods for customers with impairments to browse, interact, and get the most out of Apple products."

Apple adds, "These powerful enhancements combine the company's newest technology to create unique and customized capabilities for users, and expand on Apple's long-standing dedication to developing products that work for everyone." These features will make use of advances in technology, software, and machine learning.

New Accessibility Features from Apple

Door Detection

For people who are blind or have impaired vision, Apple is developing a new technology called Door Detection. The function will assist a user in locating a door upon arrival at unfamiliar locations and determining how far the user is from the door.

It will also explain the characteristics of the door, such as whether it is open or closed and if it may be opened by pushing, turning a knob, or pulling a handle. The functionality will be included in Magnifier's new Detection Mode.

Apple Watch Physical and Motor Accessibility

Users with physical and motor limitations will be able to manage their Apple Watch using their iPhone thanks to Apple Watch Mirroring. Essentially, the functionality will allow users to operate their Apple Watch using iPhone functions such as Switch Control and Voice Control.

This will also allow users to submit input in a variety of ways, including head tracking, sound actions, and voice commands. Users will now be able to employ new Quick Actions gestures on the Apple Watch.

Apple’s Live Caption

Apple is also offering Live Captions for iPhone, iPad, and Mac customers. The functionality would allow users to effortlessly follow along with any audio clip. They will also be able to auto-adjust the font size to make the on-screen content easier to read.

In addition, the corporation is introducing support for 20 more locations and languages. These functions will be available on Apple iPhones later this year. Stay tuned for more Apple and other technology news.
