Five states including Gujarat and Maharashtra are facing the threat of cyclone 'Tau Te' in the Arabian Sea. It has a bad impact on 6 districts of Karnataka. 73 villages in these districts have been affected by this. So far 4 people have died in the state. Of these 6 districts, 3 are adjacent to the maritime boundary. All have been raining heavily for the last 24 hours. Here the wind is blowing at a speed of 90 km per hour. Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa is monitoring the situation.

According to the Meteorological Department, the storm has hit the coastal region of Goa. Now he is moving fast towards Gujarat. Due to this, some places in North Konkan including Mumbai may receive heavy rain with strong winds since Sunday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had to shift 580 patients from Covid Care Center to safer places due to the alert. 243 patients were evacuated from BKC, 183 from Dahisar and 154 from Mulund.

Fear of turning Tau Te into a severe cyclonic storm

According to the Meteorological Department, it is expected to turn into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. The storm will pass between Porbandar and Mahua Coast of Gujarat on the morning of 18 May. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah called an important meeting regarding the cyclone. In this, preparations for relief and rescue operations are being reviewed. Apart from the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra and Gujarat, officials of Daman & Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli also attended this virtual meeting.

Wind moves at a speed of 160 km / h

According to IMD, at 2.30 pm on Saturday, the cyclone was 150 km southwest of Goa's Panaji coast, 490 km south of Mumbai, 880 km south-southwest of Veraval in Gujarat. During the storm, the wind can move at a speed of 150 to 160 kilometers per hour with rain. The impact of the storm is expected on the coasts of Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat for three days. The storm may also affect Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, western Rajasthan and Lakshadweep. This cyclone has been named 'Tau Te' by Myanmar.

According to the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority, due to cyclonic storms, heavy to very heavy rainfall has occurred in 6 districts, 3 coastal districts and 3 Malnad districts in the last 24 hours. So far 4 people have lost their lives and 73 villages have been affected.

NDRF teams have been deployed in the state in view of cyclonic storm Tau Te in Gujarat. NDRF Gandhinagar deputy commandant Ranvijay Kumar Singh said that 24 teams will take their place by this evening, with 13 teams called in from outside.

Modi held a high-level meeting

Seeing the danger of the storm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting on Saturday and took stock of the preparations. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was told that senior officials of the central government, as well as officials from Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat, attended the meeting.

53 teams of NDRF on alert

NDRF Director General SN Pradhan said on Friday – 53 teams of NDRF are being deployed on the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

Air Force Alert: Fishermen were warned

The Indian Air Force is also in alert mode, given the possibility of a storm. The Air Force has asked 16 transport aircraft and 18 helicopters to be prepared for relief and rescue operations. The Coast Guard is on alert for cyclones in the Kutch and Saurashtra maritime regions of Gujarat. Also, fishermen have been warned to stay away from the sea.

The biggest impact on Gujarat

The Meteorological Department says that Gujarat will be the most affected by this cyclone. In Dwarka, Kutch, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Rajkot, Morbi and Jamnagar districts, thatched houses will be completely destroyed, mud houses will also suffer heavy damage, pucca houses may also suffer some damage. Flood-like conditions may occur in some areas due to heavy rains.
