Tamil Nadu: State Government Should Arrange Food and Accommodation for Laborers- HC

The court has asked for full details on how many migrant laborers are in each state, how many laborers have been sent back to their home state, how many are in the process of being repatriated, as well as how many laborers died on the way

The Madras High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government regarding the migrant laborers trapped in the lockdown. The court has asked the state government to ensure food, shelter and medical facilities for migrant laborers. Earlier, while hearing a petition that brought back 400 Tamil laborers stranded in Maharashtra, the court said that the pathetic condition of migrant laborers shown on television is very sad.

The court has ordered the Center and the state to give detailed information about the migrant laborers. The court has asked for full details on how many migrant laborers are in each state, how many laborers have been sent back to their home state, how many are in the process of being repatriated, as well as how many laborers died on the way. When the case of the migrant laborers was heard in the court, the petitioner said that the migrant laborers are without food at railway stations, whereas the court directed the Tamil Nadu government to provide adequate food to the migrant laborers.

Also, the court has asked to ensure the living arrangements and medical facilities of the migrant laborers, regarding this, the court has directed the officials to file a report by June 8.
