The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that the venue and dates of the T20 World Cup will be announced next month. It is being told that this tournament can start from October 18. This World Cup is to be held in 9 cities in India, but due to Corona, BCCI is looking to host it in UAE and Oman, so that it can be connected to the remaining matches of IPL. The BCCI has also taken time till June 28 from the ICC to consider the World Cup.

Meeting between BCCI, ICC and ECB

On Wednesday, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said that the IPL will be played in the UAE from September 19 to October 15. The league had to be suspended on 3 May after 29 matches. There are still 31 matches left in the tournament. After this, it can be played in UAE from 18 October. Many top officials including BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah are in Dubai to discuss this and are constantly meeting with the ICC and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) on many matters.

Gap not a cause for concern before ICC event

If the IPL ends on October 15 and the T20 World Cup starts on October 18, then in the meantime BCCI and ICC will get only 3 days to prepare. However, the council says that this is not a big issue. ICC said – There is no rule regarding the gap before the event. We just need 10 days to prepare the pitch and the ground. This is also a norm and not a rule. Rest of the talks are going on between us and BCCI.

Qualifiers can be played in the beginning

When asked whether the gap would make it difficult for players to switch from IPL to T20 World Cup? Shukla said that there will be no problem, as initially there could be qualifier matches between the non-Test playing nations. This will give a lot of time to Team India and other countries.

16 teams will participate in T20 World Cup

This year 16 teams are participating in the T20 World Cup. Out of this 5 are non test playing nations. Apart from the important teams in the 11 Test playing nations, Afghanistan and Ireland are also included. At the same time, the countries that do not play Test include Papua New Guinea, Netherlands, Namibia, Scotland and Oman. If there is a World Cup in UAE and Oman, the opening matches can be held in Oman. In such a situation, the ICC will get a lot of time to prepare the pitch of UAE.
