North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor Himanta paved the way for becoming Assam's 15th Chief Minister after he was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP and NDA Legislature Party on Sunday.

Mamta was sworn in on 5 May

TMC has won 213 seats in the recent assembly elections. At the same time, BJP won 77 seats. Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee was sworn in as Chief Minister for the third time on 5 May.

This is why there was a change in leadership in Assam

Biswa is known to be quite effective throughout the Northeast. In the Sonowal government, he held important portfolios such as Finance, Planning, and Development, Health and Family Welfare, Education, and PWD. He also has good relations with the top leaders of the central leadership. In such a situation, it is being claimed in the media reports that the BJP was under pressure to hand over the command of Assam to Biswa.

Biswa left the Congress in 2015 and joined the BJP. Amit Shah is believed to have been impressed by Biswa's political management skills at the time. Biswa is also believed to be instrumental in BJP's expansion in the North-East. According to media reports, Amit Shah also accepted this fact.

Biswa is also the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance. This alliance was formed to bring regional parties under the leadership of the BJP. According to media reports, Biswa's eyes were always on the chief minister's chair.

BJP wins 75 seats in Assam

In the three-phase election in Assam, the BJP alliance has got 75 seats. This figure is more than the majority. This victory of BJP has created history in Assam, because never before has a non-Congress party returned to power for the second consecutive time in 70 years.

Sarma won the election with one lakh votes

Sonowal defeated Congress leader Rajib Lochan Pegu by 43,192 votes to win his second consecutive term in Majuli. Himanta Biswa Sarma retained the Jalukbari seat by defeating Congress's Romain Chandra Borthakur by a margin of 1.01 lakh votes. Apart from Sonowal and Sarma, 13 other BJP ministers also managed to retain their seats easily.

BJP does not harm NRC-CAA

These results have indicated that the issue of NRC i.e. National Register of Citizens and CAA i.e. Citizen Amendment Act did not harm BJP. This claim is also reinforced because the Bodoland People's Front, which had helped the BJP win power by winning 12 seats last time, was with the Congress and the Left this time. Despite this, the BJP was not harmed.
