India beat Sri Lanka by 38 runs in the first match of the three-match T20I series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In this match, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Team India scored 164 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, the Sri Lankan team managed to score just 126 runs in 18.3 overs.

Team India's experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 4 wickets in this match, while Deepak Chahar got two wickets. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal and Varun Chakraborty took 1-1 wicket each.

At the same time, Prithvi Shaw made his debut in T20 International cricket in this match. Unfortunately, Dushmantha Chameera dismissed Shaw for a golden duck on the very first ball of the first innings of the match. In the first T20 match against Sri Lanka, opener batsman Prithvi Shaw and spinner Varun Chakraborty made their debut for India.
