The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Delhi High Court to present an order related to the clashes between lawyers and police in the Tees Hazari Court complex and the subsequent policemen demonstrations at the police headquarters. A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Indira Banerjee said that since the High Court is already considering it, it does not want to take parallel proceedings.
The bench was hearing the plea of some lawyers for disciplinary action against the policemen who were protesting at the police headquarters. The bench told the petition petitioner GS Mani that she wanted to see the orders passed by the High Court hearing the case.
The bench said, "We are not dismissing your petition right now." You present the order of the High Court. We want to see what the High Court has done and whether anything else needs to be done. "The bench listed the matter for December 16.
On November 2, there was a clash between the lawyers and the police in a dispute over parking in the Tis Hazari court complex. Around 20 policemen and several lawyers were injured in this struggle while 17 vehicles were damaged. Two days after the incident, the lawyers of all the six district courts went on strike. The strike lasted till 15 November. Meanwhile, on November 5, thousands of policemen staged an unprecedented protest at the Delhi Police headquarters for 11 hours, expressing outrage against the alleged two attacks by lawyers on their colleagues.
The Delhi High Court, taking cognizance of media reports about the incident at Tis Hazari Court complex, ordered a judicial inquiry into it and entrusted the investigation of the entire case to its former judge SP Garg.
