The Law Ministry appointed four new judges of the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Chief Justice Ranjan Gogai administered oath of the four judges started 10:30 at court appointed them on Thursday. Justice Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi as judges were take oath. After this, now the total number of judges in the Supreme Court will increase to 28. In the Supreme Court, the total sanctioned posts of judges are 31, in which three vacancies are still vacant. The swearing-in ceremony began at 10:30 in the Court No. 1 and Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi administered the oath of office to four judges. These four judges were the chief judges in different high courts.

The judges of the Supreme Court are being appointed for the first time within 48 hours of the recommendation.While taking immediate action on the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegiums, the government notified the appointment of Justice Hemant Gupta, Justice Ajay Rastogi, Justice M.R. Shah and Justice R Subhash Reddy in the apex court.These are the heads of various high courts. Justice Gupta is currently the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Reddy, Gujarat High Court. At the same time, Justice Shah Patna of High Court and Justice Rustagi are the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court. Their recommendation was recommended by Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B. Lokur, Justice AK Sikri and Justice SA Bobde's Collegium.

 President Ramnath Kovind had approved the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium
on promoting Gupta, Reddy, Shah and Rastogi as Supreme Court Judge on Thursday. The 
collegium had recommended this on Tuesday.


Justice Hemant Gupta was the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court,  Judge  R. Subhash Reddy was the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. While Justice MR Shah was the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Judge Ajay Rastogi was the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court. Within a day after the recommendation of the Collegium, the President issued warrants for the appointment of four judges. Four Chief Justices of the High Court have been made judges of the Supreme Court.

In the Supreme Court, the Collegium of five judges had approved the appointment of four new judges on October 30 and then on October 31 the recommendation was sent to the Central Government.
