Both the parties had decided together that the marriage would take place after a few months, but in the meantime, the boys made a strange demand for dowry in front of the girls. The girl’s father says that one of his relatives had talked about the girl’s marriage.
In February, their girl’s engagement took place in a marriage hall located in the Ramnagar area of Aurangabad. In the engagement, the bride’s parents gave the boy a gold ring of 10 grams and two lakh rupees in cash. The girl’s father told her that he was against dowry, but he decided that for the happiness of his daughter, he would give a small amount of dowry. After the engagement, the groom’s family demanded a dowry from the girl’s father for a tortoise with 21 nails, a Labrador retriever, and 10 lakhs for the girl’s government job.
