Attack on NIA Team in West Bengal Now, Stone Pelting During Raid at TMC Leader's Residence

In the East Medinipur district's Bhupati Nagar area of West Bengal, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team came under attack on Saturday morning. The NIA officers had arrived there to investigate a blast case from 2022 at the residence of a Trinamool Congress leader.

Suddenly, an angry mob started pelting stones at their car, damaging the windshield and injuring one officer who was inside the vehicle.

The incident occurred around 5:30 in the morning. A complaint has been registered by the NIA team against the unknown assailants. NIA officers had arrived to apprehend the main accused, Monobroto Jana.

According to NIA sources, the central investigation agency informed the local police station before the raid, yet proper security arrangements were not made. The NIA has lodged an official complaint regarding the incident at the local police station.

NIA Takes Action in Bhupati Nagar Blast Case

Based on a complaint filed by NIA officials, the Bhupati Nagar Police Station has registered a primary case against the main accused, Monobroto Jana, his family members, and other unidentified individuals under sections 341, 332, 353, 186, 323, 427, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, and section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

Amidst the violent stone-pelting by the mob, the agency has apprehended Monobroto Jana.

On December 3, 2022, a blast occurred in Bhupati Nagar, destroying a thatched house, resulting in the death of three individuals. Last month, NIA summoned 8 Trinamool Congress leaders for questioning in connection with the blast.

The central investigation agency had directed all eight to appear before its officers as they did not participate in the earlier summons, scheduling their appearance at the NIA office in New Town on March 28.

The NIA team had reached Bhupatinagar to apprehend Monobrato Jana in connection with the same case when the mob attacked him.

ED Team Was Attacked in Sandeshkhali Also

Two months ago, there was an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. At that time, officers from the central investigation agency had raided the residence of local TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh.

Supporters of Sheikh had also attacked the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel accompanying the ED team. Three ED officers were injured in the stone-pelting and had to be admitted to the hospital.
