Uttarakhand's Haldwani witnessed turmoil after the destruction of an unauthorized mosque-mausoleum complex, leading to arson.
In response, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called for a high-level meeting and ordered the shooters of troublemakers. Given the deteriorating situation, the Uttarakhand government has imposed a curfew in Haldwani and ordered action against rioters under the UAPA.
CM Dhami reviewed the situation with the Chief Secretary and the Police Director General, urging people to maintain peace. The Uttarakhand government has deployed paramilitary forces in the area after the incident.
Regarding the incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the administration's team had been tasked with removing unauthorized encroachments as per court orders.
A scuffle ensued between the police and unruly elements, resulting in injuries to police and administrative personnel. Additional police and central forces are being dispatched immediately.
An appeal for peace has been made, and a curfew has been imposed. Strict action will be taken against those involved in arson.
Violence erupted during the demolition of an unauthorized madrasa and prayer site near the Banbhoolpura police station. When a team from the municipal corporation arrived with a JCB, the troublemakers present there started pelting stones at the administration, police, and journalists.
Several police personnel were injured, and the troublemakers also set fire to police vehicles, municipal corporation vehicles, and journalists' vehicles. The situation is currently chaotic. Senior police and administration officials are present at the scene.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhinav Kumar stated that the incident in Haldwani involved some unruly elements who resorted to stone pelting.
According to reports, these unruly elements also fired shots and additional forces have been deployed. Currently, there is no information about any casualties.
We have all the footage, and the state government is taking this matter very seriously. In the upcoming days, the troublemakers will be identified, and strict action will be taken against them.
It's worth mentioning that previously, more than 4000 houses were demolished in this area, and the matter is pending in the Supreme Court.
Such an environment has been prevalent in this area before. Currently, the police have announced a curfew in the entire area.
