Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for a sexual assault case, has been granted significant relief by the Rajasthan High Court. The court has approved a 7-day parole for Asaram to undergo medical treatment.

He will be taken to Maharashtra for treatment under police custody. The interim parole was granted by a bench led by Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court.

Asaram, currently serving his sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail, had experienced a sudden deterioration in his health.

Asaram had complained of chest pain, after which the jail administration admitted him to AIIMS Jodhpur. Following a medical check-up, he was admitted for treatment.

As soon as the news of Asaram's health deterioration and his admission to AIIMS Jodhpur became public, a crowd of his supporters gathered outside the hospital.

In 2018, a special POCSO court in Jodhpur found Asaram guilty of raping a minor and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Asaram has been in jail since September 2, 2013. In her complaint, the girl alleged that on the night of August 15, 2013, Asaram called her to his ashram in Manai, near Jodhpur, and raped her.

After a trial that lasted more than five years, the POCSO court found Asaram guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Last year, a court in Gujarat also convicted Asaram for repeatedly raping a female follower at his Surat ashram in 2013.

Asaram's Appeal for Sentence Suspension on Health Grounds

Asaram Bapu had filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court seeking the suspension of his sentence on medical grounds. However, the court rejected his plea. Asaram then challenged the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court.

In March of this year, the Supreme Court refused to interfere with the Rajasthan High Court's ruling.

However, the Supreme Court stated that he could approach the Rajasthan High Court to seek permission for medical treatment.
