Rajasthan: 1200 Oxygen Support Beds including 300 ICU ready to Deal with the Third Wave

The new variant of Corona, which is spreading rapidly, has knocked in Rajasthan as well. There has been a stir after 9 patients of this new variant were found simultaneously in Jaipur. All of them have been admitted to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), the largest Covid dedicated hospital in Rajasthan.

7-thousand-cylinder oxygen backup

According to RUHS Superintendent Dr. Ajit Singh, this hospital has a backup plan of 7,000 cylinders to fight the new variant. A Liquid Oxygen Plant is already installed here. One more plant of similar capacity has been set up. Its installation has been done and it will start working in a day or two.

Apart from this, 5 Oxygen Generation Plants have been installed. It will have oxygen generation with a capacity of 3600 cylinders per day. Apart from this, the backup of oxygen concentration and the cylinder are different. At the time of the second wave of Corona, patients were treated with 1700 cylinders of the liquid oxygen tank and through a total of 2400 cylinders including 600 oxygen cylinders. Now, this capacity has been increased to 7 thousand cylinders.

There is a total of 1200 beds in RUHS. Of these, 300 beds are of ICU and ventilator. There are 900 beds with oxygen support. Of these, oxygen is being supplied through the pipeline to more than 90 percent of the beds. The Superintendent of RUHS said that if needed, the number of beds with oxygen cylinders can be increased by about 100 more.

In April-May, when a large number of patients came in the second wave of the corona, then patients were treated with beds in the open on the verandahs and ground floor and they were given oxygen through cylinders.

Dedicated floor reserve of 60 beds for Omicron patients

The 5th floor of the 9-storey RUHS Hospital has been reserved for Omicron suspected patients or positive patients. There are 60 high-flow oxygen general beds on this floor. Apart from this, a unit of 20 beds has also been reserved for Omicron patients in the ICU section on the third floor. Apart from this, there is also a separate 20-bed ICU ward for small children.
