
Eleven people, including two children, are believed to be dead, and many more are believed to be trapped inside a factory in the Giaspura area of Punjab's Ludhiana after a gas leak was discovered about 7:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The officials disclosed that among the individuals affected, there are five females and six males, including two male children who are 10 and 13 years old.
According to authorities, the source of the leak and the type of gas have yet to be confirmed. The area has been closed off, and a fire department and an ambulance have been summoned.
An NDRF crew arrived in the region to assist with the rescue and is investigating the source of the gas.
A 50-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has also arrived on the scene.
The presence of the gas leak is undeniable. The NDRF team is present at the location to evacuate people and carry out rescue operations.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann extended his condolences and pain over the gas leak.
It's unfortunate that a gas leak occurred in a factory located in the Giaspura area of Ludhiana. At present, the site is being attended by teams from the police, government, and NDRF.
The impacted are receiving every available assistance. The remaining information will be provided soon." Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab, tweeted.
The officer went on to say that because it was a densely populated neighborhood, the immediate priority was to evacuate people from the area.
