On Thursday, the central government extended Z-plus security to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, covering his safety nationwide.
The government's directive stated, "The CRPF is requested to provide 'Z+' security cover to Shri Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, across all states in India, effective immediately, with notification sent to this Ministry."
Citing sources from the news agency PTI, it has been reported that the recent security arrangement, along with the existing protection offered by the Punjab Police, will encompass the Chief Minister's residence and provide security for his immediate family members.
These sources further indicate that the central intelligence and security agencies, while conducting a 'threat perception analysis' report of the chief minister, recommended the provision of such a security cover to Bhagwant Mann.
This decision was made in light of the Khalistani activities observed in the border state.
In March, there were reports stating that Bhagwant Mann's daughter, Seerat Kaur Mann, residing in the US, had received threatening phone calls from individuals associated with pro-Khalistan elements.
A lawyer based in Patiala had alleged that Seerat Kaur Mann was subjected to verbal abuse during these calls.
The call was in response to the intensified actions taken against Amritpal Singh, a self-styled Sikh preacher and leader of the organization "Waris Punjab De," along with his associates in Punjab.
