Police in Bhubaneswar Odisha's capital has detained a 60-year-old man accused of marrying 14 women and extorting money from them across seven states. According to the police, the jailed guy has allegedly married 14 women from seven states of the country in the last 48 years.
This man a resident of a village in the Patkura police station area of Odisha's Kendrapara district is also accused of taking money from those women before abandoning the alleged spouses. The arrested person, on the other hand, has disputed the charges.

The accused married for the first time in 1982 and for the second time in 2002, according to Bhubaneshwar Deputy Commissioner of Police Umashankar Das. From both of these marriages, he had five children. Das claimed that from 2002 to 2020, he used matrimonial websites to meet new women and married them without alerting his first spouses.
He was residing in Bhubaneswar with his last wife, a Delhi school teacher, according to the authorities. According to the police, She found out about his prior marriages through some means and filed a complaint. The accused has been apprehended in his leased apartment.

The accused, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, preyed on middle-aged unmarried women, particularly divorcees, who utilized matrimonial websites to find partners. The accused, according to the police, used to grab her money before abandoning her. The accused was found with 11 ATM cards, four Aadhar cards, and other documents.
Women in seven states have been scammed by the accused man, including Delhi, Punjab, Assam, Jharkhand, and Odisha. His first two marriages were both from the state of Odisha. The matter came to light, according to the DCP, when his previous wife, a school teacher, filed a complaint with the women's police in July of last year. The apprehended person was previously arrested in Hyderabad and Ernakulam on grounds of cheating unemployed youths and loan fraud, according to police.
