Pune Airport in Maharashtra will now be known by a new name. The Eknath Shinde government of Maharashtra has renamed Pune Airport.
It will now be called "Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj International Airport." The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a proposal to this effect.
An official stated that the decision was made during a meeting of the state government's cabinet, and the proposal will be sent to the central government for approval.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had already voiced his support for renaming Pune Airport. Gadkari had stated that he would ensure the proposal receives backing from the central government. Now, the state government has made the decision to move forward with this plan.
BJP MP from Pune and Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, expressed his happiness on the social media platform X. He stated that the first step towards renaming Pune International Airport to "Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Pune International Airport" has been taken. He further added that the proposal was approved during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The Union Minister stated, "Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj was born in Lohegaon, where Pune International Airport is located. Not only that, but Tukaram Maharaj also spent his childhood in Lohegaon." The BJP MP from Pune has also thanked the Maharashtra Mahayuti government for approving the proposal.
