Sameer Wankhede, a former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer, allegedly received death threats on social media.

On August 14, a Twitter user named 'Aman' messaged Sameer Wankhede. The person wrote in the message, "Tumko pata hai tune kya kiya hai, iska hisaab tumko dena padega" (You know what you did, and you will have to pay for it).

Another warning said, "Tumko khatam kar denge.” Following this, Sameer Wankhede approached Goregaon police. Wankhede's statement was recorded the day before.

Case was transferred from NCB's Mumbai division to its central team

The account had no followers and is suspected of being set up to issue threats against Wankhede, according to police sources.

Wankhede, who previously held the position of Zonal Director at the Mumbai branch of the NCB, gained significant public attention when the agency conducted high-profile drug raids in October 2021 on a Mumbai cruise.

This operation resulted in the arrest of 20 individuals, including Aryan Khan, the son of renowned actor Shah Rukh Khan. The NCB also asserted that they had seized some illegal substances during the operation.

Following accusations of corruption directed at Sameer Wankhede, the case was reassigned from the Mumbai division to the central team of the NCB.

Wankhede was taken off the case and a vigilance investigation was launched into his conduct. Subsequently, the NCB exonerated Aryan Khan.

Cruise raid landed Aryan Khan in Detention

When Wankhede was leading the investigation into the Mumbai cruise drug case, Nawab Malik, who was a minister in Maharashtra at the time, made several accusations against him. These included the claim that Wankhede had falsified his caste certificate.

Malik also called the 2021 cruise raid, which landed Aryan Khan in detention for about a month, "fake." He further accused Wankhede of being a BJP agent.

Wankhede, an IRS official, was assigned to the NCB following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020, when the names of several Bollywood celebrities surfaced during inquiries into a probable drug connection.

Several high-profile celebrities, including Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, and Rakul Preet Singh, were questioned during his term in connection with suspicions of a narcotics conspiracy in Bollywood.
