A team from the Lokayukta in Madhya Pradesh has uncovered a case of illicit wealth accumulation. The team conducted a raid on the premises of a retired storekeeper on Tuesday, revealing that the individual owned more assets than their reported income.

Astonishingly, the retired storekeeper was found to be the owner of property worth over 10 crore rupees.

According to information, a complaint had been lodged against the retired storekeeper for possessing wealth beyond their known sources of income.

Case was Filed under Anti-Corruption Act

Lokayukta SP Manu Vyas stated, 'Ashfaq Ali, residing in Laturi village, was previously employed as a storekeeper at the district hospital in Rajgarh.

A complaint was received against him for amassing wealth disproportionate to his income, leading to the filing of a case under the Anti-Corruption Act.'

Details of over 16 immovable properties in the names of family members have also been acquired, and an investigation is underway regarding more than 50 other properties in Bhopal, Vidisha, and Laturi.

As per the Lokayukta SP, when Ashfaq Ali retired from his post as a storekeeper, his salary was around 45,000 rupees.

However, during the raid, the assets, cash, and jewellery recovered were several times more than his reported income.

Luxurious Lifestyle Discovered in Bhopal Residence

The accused in the Laturi case also possesses a 14,000-square-foot under-construction shopping complex.

Furthermore, a three-story building was also found, where a school is being run. During the raid, jewellery worth around 46 lakh rupees and cash amounting to nearly 20 lakh rupees were recovered from the house.

The cash was stored in a bag inside the house, necessitating the use of a machine to count it.

The luxurious interior of the house on Bhopal's Airport Road left the Lokayukta team astonished, featuring a modular kitchen, expensive chandeliers, a refrigerator, TV, and plush sofas and chairs.
