
First Woman Chief Justice of Gujarat HC: Today i.e. Feb 16 is a very important day for the Gujarat High Court. Today the Gujarat High Court got its first woman Chief Justice.
Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath of office to Justice Sonia Gokani as the Chief Justice.
With the Governor administering the oath, Sonia Gokani's name got registered in the pages of history. She has become the first woman Chief Justice of Gujarat.
But Sonia Gokani will remain on this post only for 9 days. It means Gujarat High Court got the first woman Chief Justice but her tenure will be only for 9 days.
Actually, due to the age limit, Sonia Gokani will retire on 25th February. In such a situation, she will remain in the post of Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court only for 9 days.
Former Chief Justice of Gujarat Aravind Kumar has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court. After which Sonia Gokani's name was decided for the new Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court.
The recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium had decided the name of Sonia Gokani.
Based on this today Gokani became the first woman Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.
Sonia Gokani, who hails from Jamnagar, has the distinction of becoming the first woman Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.
But she will work as Chief Justice only for 9 days. Due to the age limit, Sonia will retire on February 25.
This is the first time in the history of Gujarat that a woman has reached this position.
