Gujarat Election 2022: Assembly elections in Gujarat are to be held in two phases. The first phase of voting is to be held on December 1 and the second phase on December 5.
A total of 788 candidates are in the fray for 89 seats in the first phase of the assembly elections. According to information, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has analyzed self-attested affidavits of 788 candidates contesting elections this year to find out the criminal records of these candidates.
If we look at the criminal cases of the candidates, out of 788, there are 167 (21%) candidates who have criminal cases against them. At the same time, there are 100 candidates (13%) who have serious criminal cases against them.
Let us tell you that 14 (16%) out of 89 BJP candidates, 32 (36%) out of 88 candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, and 31 (35%) out of 89 candidates of Congress have criminal cases against them.
At the same time, 4 out of 14 (29%) candidates of the Bharatiya Tribal Party have criminal cases against them.
Let us tell you that there are 9 candidates on whom cases related to atrocities on women are registered. At the same time, a case of murder has also been declared against three candidates. Also, cases related to attempt to murder have been declared against 12 candidates.
The report found that around 21 per cent of the candidates contesting in the first phase of elections in Gujarat are facing criminal charges.
Despite the directions of the Supreme Court, all political parties in Gujarat have followed their old practice of giving tickets again. This year a large number of candidates with criminal records have contested for power.
