Due to dense fog in the national capital, flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport have been affected today. Passengers have been advised to contact their respective airlines for flight updates and to proceed to the airport only after obtaining relevant information.
According to the report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Delhi has dropped to 9.4 degrees Celsius as the visibility in some parts of the city has reduced to zero due to the thick fog.
On Sunday, the minimum temperature reached 9.1 degrees Celsius, and visibility in various parts of the capital decreased to just 125 meters. The chilling cold, coupled with shivering temperatures, has led many people to seek shelter in makeshift rain shelters in different areas.
According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in Delhi remained in the 'Very Poor' category on Monday, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) around 400.
After a brief respite for two days, cold weather intensified in Kashmir on Sunday, with several parts of the valley recording temperatures below freezing.
Officials provided this information, stating that on Saturday night, the temperature in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, dropped to 2.1 degrees Celsius below freezing. The previous night on Friday, it was 1.2 degrees Celsius below freezing.
Officials reported that in South Kashmir, in the Anantnag district's Pahalgam, the minimum temperature was recorded 3.9 degrees Celsius below freezing on Saturday.
The night before on Friday, it was 0.2 degrees Celsius below freezing. Pahalgam serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra and is the coldest place in the Kashmir Valley.
