G20 Summit: The G20 Summit will be held in New Delhi, India, from September 8 to September 10, 2023. Authorities have developed numerous travel restrictions and procedures to ensure strong security and good traffic management for this event.

Important information for New Delhi residents and visitors during this time:

Transport Options

There may be adjustments to public transport services from 8 September to 10 September, and some routes may be interrupted or rerouted due to security precautions.

Travellers may face longer commuting times, and entrance to New Delhi for private and commercial vehicles may be restricted.

Considering the security arrangements, the Delhi Metro is advisable for city travel during the G20 Summit.

Delhi Metro Services

From September 8 to September 10, Delhi Metro services will begin at 4 a.m. from all terminal stations on all lines. Except for the Supreme Court Metro Station, closest to the Pragati Maidan venue, other Metro stations will be open to the public during this period.

Due to security concerns, Supreme Court Metro Station will be closed for boarding and deboarding on September 9 and 10.

To ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the national capital for the two-day event, a barrage of curbs will go into effect from midnight.

Access to New Delhi District

From 5 a.m. on September 8 to 11:59 p.m. on September 10, the entire district of New Delhi will be designated a "controlled zone." While three-seater rickshaws and taxis are permitted to operate outside the district, taxis transporting passengers to New Delhi must have appropriate passes or hotel booking data.

Residents, authorised vehicles, and essential service providers must have identification, while tourists and those with hotel reservations in the New Delhi District must have proper hotel reservation information.

Moreover, the area inside the Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) would be designated as a "regulated zone" during the same time period.

Routes to Airport and Railway Stations

Travellers to airports or railway stations are urged to take the routes recommended by the Delhi Police. It should be noted that travel times may be extended during these three days.

Various railway stations and Delhi Airport terminals have their own transport routes.

Road Closures

Commuters are advised to avoid "Regulated and Controlled Zones." For individuals travelling by car at this time, alternate routes have been proposed.

From the night of September 7 to 11:59 p.m. on September 10, buses and commercial vehicles are restricted on specific roads, including Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road, and inside Pragati Maidan Tunnel.

Furthermore, from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 10, there will be traffic interruptions at various areas, including New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Shanti Van Chowk, ITO, Rajghat Chowk, and Guru Nanak Chowk.

Online Food Delivery

During the G20 leaders' summit on September 8-10, online meal delivery services from eateries in the New Delhi region will be unavailable.

Open and Closed Establishments

All government agencies, private offices, and educational institutions in the National Capital Territory of Delhi would be closed during this time. Commercial banks and financial institutions within the New Delhi Police District's jurisdiction will also be closed.

For these three days, restaurants, theatres, and shopping malls in New Delhi will be closed. Milk shops, pharmacies, vegetable markets, and grocery stores, on the other hand, will remain open.
