Following the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, intelligence agencies issued an alert prompting Delhi Police to enhance security at the Israeli Embassy and Chabad House.
On July 31, Ismail Haniyeh and his bodyguard were killed in an airstrike by the Israeli military in Tehran.
According to sources, after receiving the intelligence alert, Delhi Police officials held a meeting to plan comprehensive security measures around both Israeli establishments in the national capital.
Multilayered security, including the installation of several CCTV cameras around the buildings, had already been implemented.
A police officer stated that more police personnel could be deployed if needed. After a bomb threat rumour was posted on X (formerly Twitter), Delhi Police had to issue a clarification. The police confirmed that it was a false alarm, and the post was subsequently removed.
In the past three years, there have been two low-intensity explosions near the Israeli Embassy in the national capital. No one was injured in either attack.
Following the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas last year, security around the Israeli Embassy has been significantly tightened and reinforced.
The Embassy of India in Israel has also posted on X: "In light of the ongoing situation in the region, Indian nationals in Israel are strongly advised to stay alert and adhere to the safety measures recommended by local authorities. It is important to exercise caution, limit travel within the country, and remain near safety shelters."
