Floods in Assam: The situation has worsened due to the floods that followed the rains in Assam. It has been raining in Assam for the last 6 days.
Nine people, including three children, lost their lives on Sunday and with this 71 people have died due to floods and landslides in the state so far this year.
More than 42 lakh people have been affected by the floods in 33 districts of the state.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 6 people drowned and three died in landslides in different parts of the state on Sunday.
The total number of people killed in floods and landslides this year has gone up to 71. At least 42,28,100 people have been affected by the floods.
With nearly 12.76 lakh people, Barpeta is the most devastated district. After this, about 3.94 lakh people in Darrang and more than 3.64 lakh people in Nagaon are affected by the floods.
Massive landslides have been reported from Cachar, Dima Hasao, Goalpara and Hailakandi.
The meteorological department has issued an 'Orange Alert' for today i.e. Monday, while a 'Yellow Alert' has been issued for Tuesday to Thursday.
At this time, 5,137 villages are flooded, and 1,07,370.43 hectares of cropland have been devastated.
Officials are running 1,147 relief camps and distribution centres in 27 districts.
