Andhra Train Accident: A tragic train accident took place in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 7:10 pm, leaving around 50 individuals injured and sadly claiming the lives of 14 people.

Andhra Train Accident: The dreadful train accident that occurred in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday, October 29, 2023, resulted in a death toll of 14 people and left 50 others injured.

This incident involved a collision between two trains on Sunday morning. Police officials said that a detailed rescue operation is underway.

According to the statements of officials of the East Coast Railway (ECR), the Rayagada passenger train collided with the Palasa passenger train from behind at Kantakapalli leaving three coaches to derail.

People who got Injured were Shifted to Different Hospitals

People who got injured in the train accident were shifted to hospitals in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief over this incident and declared an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh relief fund to the injured and Rs 10 lakh relief fund to the families of the deceased.  

After the incident, the South Central Railway announced the revocation and diversion of trains that take the route of Visakhapatnam.

Is Human Error a Reason for Train Collision?

Human error is doubted to have caused the accident. As per SP Saurabh Prasad, two passenger trains were running through the middle line.

"The rear train came and overshot the indication as a consequence of which approximately five coaches, two of the rear train and three of the front train derailed,".

However, he refused to substantiate the reason for the accident until the investigation was finished. He furthermore added "Once the investigation is finished, we then will be able to say anything considering the cause.
