World Cup 2019: Usman Khawaja Ruled out Due to Hamstring Injury

Head mentor Justin Langar on Sunday affirmed that Khawaja will miss Australia's semi-finals clash against England to be played on Thursday and will be out of activity for in any event three to about a month.

Khawaja picked up the injury while batting in Australia's chase of 326 at Old Trafford on July 6 against South Africa, and he came out to bat for a second time after retiring hurt initially, but his team fell short by 10 runs.

Matthew Wade was called up as spread for Khawaja and will require the endorsement of ICC's Technical Committee for the wicketkeeper-batsman to replace Khawaja in the World Cup squad.

"Ussie has a hamstring strain so he'll be out for most likely three to about a month which is a genuine disgrace yet we need to buckle down on getting him up for the Ashes now," Langer said. "Such a pity for him he's been so vital to how we've been playing. Like Shaun (Marsh) I feel miserable for him that he's going to miss the World Cup semi-final."

The head mentor, notwithstanding, stayed idealistic that Khwaja would almost certainly play in the first Ashes Test beginning on August 1.

"Hopefully he'll be right," Langer said. "It's on the best part of a strain as you can get. It's nothing to do with his tendon, it's as good a strain as you can get basically.

"Minimalistically it'll be three or a month, and with all the assistance and the recovery he'll get ideally he'll be directed for the training game or positively the principal Test," Langer included.

Other than Khawaja, another damage worry for Australia in front of their semi-final is all-rounder Marcus Stoinis who gripped his correct side subsequent to tossing a ball in from the limit against the Proteas.

Earlier in the tournament, Stoinis had picked up a side strain in Australia's loss to India before he passed a fitness test ahead of the Bangladesh tie at Trent Bridge. Mitchell Marsh joined the Australia squad as cover for Stoinis.
