South Africa's newly appointed head coach Mark Boucher has said that he will try to convince some players, including AB de Villiers who retired recently, to return to the South Africa squad ahead of next year's T20 World Cup. Mark Boucher was appointed South Africa's head coach until 2023 on Saturday and his first major tournament would be the T20 World Cup in Australia, with 10 months to go. De Villiers, considered one of South Africa's greatest players, retired from international cricket in March last year and is now playing in franchise-based tournaments around the world.

Boucher said, "When you are preparing for the World Cup, you want your best players to play for you. If I believe that he (de Villiers) is one of our best players then why would I not want to talk with him. I can talk with some players and see what position they are in. If they need to resolve some issues with the media, teammates and this is good for South Africa, then why not do it."

Due to some problems with the board, the star players distanced themselves from the team, which weakened the South African team and their performance in several bilateral series including big tournaments like World Cup. Recently, in India too, they had to face defeat badly. There have also been through many criticisms about the performance of the team, after which the South African board has now started the work of connecting the former players with the team. In the same sequence, former opener Graeme Smith was made the director of the team on Saturday, and then former wicket-keeper Mark Boucher was given the responsibility of coach.
