Helmet in Cricket: There are many safety measures taken to prevent accidents on the cricket field. 

Equipments like bat, ball, gloves, and wicket keeping gloves are there to keep the batsmen and the keepers safe from the fast and bouncy deliveries which are bowled by the fast bowlers and some spin bowlers who produce an awkward bounces.

To protect themselves from  all the injury scars, the cricket batsmen and wicket keepers wear a helmet during the live match. 

But there was a time when there was no such thing as a helmet in the cricketing world. 

Nowadays also, we see many batsmen take off the helmets, especially when the spinners come to bowl. For the first time a player was seen wearing a helmet caught the eyes of the International cricketing world.

The former England batsman Dennis Amiss was seen wearing a helmet for the first time on the cricket field. 

The first century in cricket and the World Cup is also named after Amis. He was a former opening of the England Cricket Team. 

Dennis Amiss completed his first century in ODI cricket in a match that was played against Australia at Manchester on August 8, 1939. This was the first ODI match for Amis as well 

But this was only the second ODI between England and Australia in the cricket world.

First Century in the World Cup is also Named After Dennis Amiss 

In the first World Cup of 1979, Amiss scored a ton at Lord's Cricket Ground in the match which was played against India.

Later Amiss was dismissed by Indian middle-order batting all-rounder Madan Lal in the match. It was the first World Cup match for India and England. 

It was not easy to face the fast bowlers of teams like Australia and West Indies in the past. So Amiss fought a battle in his way.

He had brought on a motorcycle helmet to face the fast bowlers from Australia and the West Indies.

Despite that helmet still it took work to play against and keep wickets against quality pacers.

Then a century was completed by Amiss. In the year 1959, a helmet made its way for the first time on the cricket field. 

After that, the use of helmets started to become more often a thing in cricket.

Earlier, the batsman used a scalp cap or hat, but it did not protect the batsman’s head. So the helmet was finally discovered and now, the players are given a helmet.
