Australian team star batsmen Steve Smith and Aaron Finch are on track to recover in time for the T20 World Cup to be held in the UAE and Oman in October-November. Both players had been sidelined due to injury and their absence could actually reduce Australia's chances of lifting the T20 World Cup title. However, the good news is that both Smith and Finch are on road to recovery ahead of the crucial tournament.

Steve Smith suffered elbow injury earlier this year and got worse during the Indian Premier League (IPL) played earlier this year. He also had to withdraw from tours of West Indies and Bangladesh. Last month, Smith insisted that he would prioritize the upcoming Ashes over the T20 World Cup. However, the right-handed batsman is recovering fast and is even batting in the nets.

Smith eyeing on the five-match Ashes series:

Talking to Cricket Australia's website, Aaron Finch said, "It (rehab) seems to be going really well (for Smith). I know that he's been building up his batting time over the last couple of weeks — I know that would have been difficult to have a time limit on his net times. From all reports he's been really strict with that, making sure he doesn't overdo his elbow so it hinders his rehab. He's going really well. The last time I spoke to him he wasn't having any pain batting so that was a real positive. He's going to be such an important part of our campaign."

Australia has faced tough times in T20Is recently. The team suffered consecutive series defeats against West Indies and Bangladesh. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether he can make a comeback in the global event or not. At the same time, Steve Smith is also available for Delhi Capitals for the remaining season of IPL 2021. However, he is eyeing on the five-match Ashes series starting later this year.
