The second match of the three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka took place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's team defeated India by 4 wickets in this match and leveled the series 1-1. In this match, Sri Lankan team captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bowl.

Batting first, the Indian team scored 132 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Shikhar Dhawan played an innings of 40 runs to take the team to a respectable score. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka had a target of 133 runs to win, which the hosts achieved in 19.4 overs with 4 wickets loss. Now, the 3rd and the final team match will take place at the same ground on Thursday 29 July.

Indian batsmen could not take advantage of a good start:

On the other hand, Indian team captain Shikhar Dhawan, who came to bat first after losing the toss, got a new opening partner in this match as Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both scored 45 runs without losing a wicket in the 6 overs power-play. However, in the very next over, Gaikwad was caught by Minod Bhanuka off Dasun Shanaka's delivery. Dhawan, who was batting well, got clean bowled in an attempt to hit a big shot off Akila Dhananja. He scored 40 runs in 42 balls.

Devdutt Padikkal, who made his debut through this match, could not leave much of his impact and lost his wicket after playing an innings of 29 runs in 23 balls. Sanju Samson was bowled by Akila Dhananjaya for 7 runs. Nitish Rana played an innings of 9 runs and dismissed by Chameera.

Four Indian players made their debut:

Four new players given chance in the Indian team in this match, which included Nitish Rana, Devdutt Padikkal, Rituraj Gaikwad and Chetan Sakariya. Meanwhile, players like Prithvi Shaw, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ishan Kishan, Manish Pandey, Deepak Chahar were not available for selection for this match. All these players were close contacts of Krunal Pandya, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
